SEREN Network

Fitzalan supports the Seren Academy in the 6th form and many students benefit from the involvement in academically focussed events.

Seren supports the most academically able students and helps them gain entry to leading universities in Wales, the UK and overseas.

The Seren Network offers its students invaluable international opportunities. Through established partnerships with Yale, Harvard and MIT, students from Wales have been supported to attend YYGS (Yale Young Global Scholars) Summer Schools and Harvard Summer School.

The Seren Network:

  • inspires students about their future career aspirations
  • stretches and challenges students in the subjects they enjoy
  • links students with leading UK universities, providing information and advice
  • provides information on university summer schools, workshops and other activities across the UK
  • provides advice on completing UCAS applications and interviews
  • supports schools and teachers to provide the best advice and activities for their high achieving students

To be a part of the Seren Academy you will need to secure 5 or more A* grades at GCSE (inc Maths and English). You should also want to be involved and be prepared to commit to the super curricular events that are organised.

These events will be arranged alongside your normal 6th form opportunities and often you will need to apply for places and be independently motivated to engage in the events as you may be the only person from your group attending.

This year pupils have already attended the Seren launch event and university market place, Oxford University Target days, Guest Lectures at Cardiff University and Science in Space events.
