The Year 7 football team can look back on a season filled with growth, resilience, and promise for the future. As their first year representing Fitzalan comes to a close, the boys should be incredibly proud of the progress they have made both as footballers and as a team.

The season began with a harsh lesson in competitive school football. Drawn against a strong Llanishen side in the Welsh Cup, the team suffered a heavy defeat. While the result was difficult to take, it was an important moment in the team's development. Rather than allowing the setback to define their season, the players used the experience as motivation to improve.

A much stronger performance followed in the Cardiff Cup against Whitchurch. Although Fitzalan narrowly lost the match, the boys showed significant improvement, competing throughout against another strong opponent. The determination, effort, and team spirit displayed in that fixture highlighted the potential within the squad and laid the foundations for the months ahead.

The real success story of the season came in the Cardiff & Vale Schools FA Year 7 West Division. Week by week, the team grew in confidence and understanding. Their hard work on the training pitch began to translate into performances and results, culminating in an excellent league campaign that saw the boys climb to the top of the table. A thrilling 4-3 victory over Pencoedtre proved to be a defining moment, moving Fitzalan into first place and demonstrating the character and belief that had developed within the squad throughout the year. The season was finished off with a very dominant win over local rivals Cardiff West.

What has been most pleasing has not simply been the results, but the journey. The players arrived at Fitzalan from different primary schools, many having never played together before. Over the course of the season, they have formed strong friendships, developed a genuine team identity, and represented the school with pride, commitment, and respect. Every challenge they faced helped them learn valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and resilience.

This group has shown that success is not measured solely by trophies or league positions. Their willingness to work hard, learn from setbacks, and support one another has been outstanding. These qualities will serve them well not only on the football pitch but throughout their time at Fitzalan.

As they move into Year 8 and beyond, there is every reason to be excited about what this team can achieve. The talent within the squad is clear, but perhaps even more important is the character they have displayed throughout their first season. With continued dedication and enjoyment of the game, these players have the potential to achieve great things for Fitzalan over the coming years.

This season will be remembered as the beginning of their Fitzalan football journey. It has been a year of learning, development, memorable matches, and important experiences. The future is bright for this talented group of young players, and we look forward to seeing them continue to grow, succeed, and represent Fitzalan with distinction for many years to come.

Well done to every player who pulled on the green shirt this season. Your journey is only just beginning, and the entire Fitzalan community looks forward to supporting you in the years ahead.
