The Year 10 GCSE geographers completed their Fieldwork Enquiry (FE) within the Brecon Beacons National Park on Thursday 19th June 2025. 

The pupils visited the Caerfanell River as a physical environment where they collected and recorded data at three different sites, site 1: Upper Blaen y Glyn (Blaen y Glyn Uchaf) and site 2: Lower Blaen y Glyn (Blaen y Glyn Isaf) and site 3 Talybont reservoir.  A range of fieldwork equipment such as measuring tapes, metre rulers, flowmeters, stop watches, callipers, ranging poles and clinometers were used to measure and record channel width, depth, velocity, size of material, angularity of the slip-off slopes and the height of river cliffs. 

The pupils will use the collected data to investigate how transects change along the profile of a river.  After the river study, the pupils visited Crickhowell town as a human environment where they questioned residents, business owners and tourists/visitors to investigate inequalities. 

The pupils will complete their unit 3 Non-Examination Assessment (NEA), which is worth 20% of their final GCSE geography qualification in the Autumn of 2025.
