On Wednesday 22nd October 2025 the Year 10 GCSE geographers completed their fieldwork enquiry (unit 2) along the river Ilston, located on the Gower peninsula in Swansea.
The pupils collected relevant data from three different sites to include Ilston, Parkmill (Gower Inn) and Pennard Pill (Three Cliffs Bay). A range of fieldwork equipment such as measuring tapes, metre rulers, flowmeters, stop watches, callipers, ranging poles and clinometers were used to measure and record channel width, depth, velocity, size of material, angularity of the slip-off slopes and the height of river cliffs.
The pupils will now analyse their data and submit their work to the WJEC at the end of the academic year, which is worth 25% of their final GCSE geography qualification.
