Visit to the Cardiff University archaeological excavations in Trelai Park

On 24th June, the Fitzalan history department and 20 Year 7 pupils were very privileged to be invited to visit the Cardiff University archaeological excavations in Trelai Park.

Over a number of years, the excavations have uncovered highly significant archaeology dating to the Bronze Age and this year, the excavations have already made the national headlines with some fascinating finds.  Our visit began with a tour of the excavations, where we saw the archaeologists at work.  The group then engaged in activities such as finds washing, spoil heap sieving, handling artefacts and even digging.  This was a fantastic opportunity for our pupils who were fascinated by the archaeological process and thoroughly enjoyed getting involved.

Thank you to the team from Cardiff University and the Caer Heritage Project for inviting us to visit and inspiring some archaeologists of the future!
