SHARE with schools visit to the history Department

On Friday 10th March, the team from SHARES with Schools (Cardiff University) visited the history department to deliver sessions to Year 7 classes.

The sessions were about archaeological science, which enhanced the understanding that the pupils have had through our looking at pre-history and archaeology as part of the new Curriculum for Wales.  Using DNA, strontium, carbon and other scientific methods, the pupils were asked to identify a burial.  These ranged from the Amesbury Archer (Bronze Age) to a Tudor bowman from the Mary Rose.

The pupils also enjoyed looking at artefacts like a quern stone and animal bones.  It really was a good day, with the pupils enjoying learning and asking lots of questions.

Thank you to the SHARE with Schools team.
