Information for Year 7 Parents
The following email has been sent to all parents of Year 7 using the email address that you applied for your school place with Cardiff Council. If you are using a different email address please email transition@fitzalan.cardiff.sch.uk so that we can maintain accurate records for you.
Dear all,
We hope that you have all enjoyed a wonderful summer holiday and received our welcome postcard home about the start of school. I just wanted to update you on a few things in light of new Welsh government guidance and issues that have arisen in the news.
We are looking forward to welcoming all Year 7 children to school on Monday 6th September at 8.30am. Pupils will finish school at 3.05pm. This will remain their start and finish time for school. If you are escorting them to school, please arrange to meet them in the same place at the end of the day if you are also picking up. All school buses are operating at the timetable is again attached for you below. Please also find attached a letter from Cardiff Council concerning road closures for Lawrenny Avenue that may affect you.

All pupils should be in full school uniform, there will be no PE on the first day but when pupils have received their timetables on Monday they will know which days they have PE and are able to come to school in their PE kit on those day. Pupils must ensure that they only come to school in PE kit on the days that they have PE. A full list of information for the start of school can be found here Information for Parents - Fitzalan High School
All pupils are to meet on the yard near the Science block and I have attached a map for your reference. All pupils should aim to line up with their registration group based on the Team that they have been placed on Hwb. If they cannot remember their group, please do not worry, we will have staff and lists available to help. We have also had some staff get married over the holidays and so some initials may also have changed. Pupils will then be escorted to their tutor room for the day where they will receive their timetables, have their school photo taken and their thumb prints taken to buy their school meals and access school trips. Can I please take this opportunity to remind anyone who has NOT completed the online admission form, to do so before the weekend as your child may be unable to take part in some of these vital activities if we do not have the relevant permissions. The form can be accessed here. Please DO NOT complete again if you have already done so. https://forms.gle/opp8op3G39TmuXNr6
In terms of Covid 19 arrangements. We will continue to operate with a staggered day so that year groups have separate zones, breaks and lunchtimes. All pupils will continue to wear a face covering in all communal areas so please ensure that they have one on the first day. (We do have some Fitzalan face coverings that we can give out if needed but pupils will need to ensure they remember to bring their own each day and they will not be allowed onto any of the buses without one).
Pupils and staff at Fitzalan have been completing Lateral flow Tests (LFTs) successfully for some time and we want to ensure that we continue to keep Fitzalan as Covid free as possible. All secondary pupils and staff must also complete Lateral Flow Tests (LFTs) twice per week. If you have access to these at home already, please ensure your child completes one tomorrow (Wed 1st September) and Sunday 5th September. If you have older children where they have been provided before the summer, please feel free to use these as we can provide more on Monday. If you do not have access to them, please do not worry, we will provide them to all children on Monday. Please do not send your child to school if they are displaying any Covid symptoms and ensure a PCR test is requested asap. Pupils must share with us a negative PCR test before arriving on school site. If your child has never completed a LFT test and has any worries about it, we do have staff at school who can show them how and put them at ease. However, we would recommend that you watch the following NHS video to ensure it is completed accurately.

Best wishes
