Year 8 history visit to St Fagans National Museum of History

On Tuesday 12th December a group of Year 8 pupils visited St Fagans National Museum of History with the Fitzalan History Department.  The purpose of the visit was to investigate St Teilo’s Church which has been rebuilt on the site and made to look as it would have done, just before the Reformation.

Year 8 are studying religious change in Wales and are currently looking at the causes and consequences of the Reformation.  The group had a fascinating talk with artefacts about belief and religious change at the time, before they put together their own short introduction to the building.

The education team at St Fagans were also interested as to how our pupils thought the history of the building could be presented.  We were also able to look around some of the other buildings on the site, including Llys Llewellyn (we heard some interesting and rather gory stories from the Mabinogion in there!), Rhyd y Car cottages and the Iron Age houses.

It was a very interesting day, with history skills used and much learnt.
