Parent Update : Important Information

Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Thank you to you all for working in partnership with us as we try to ensure that all our pupils learn together to be the best that they can be.

It has been a real pleasure this term to see school life returning to some normality.  Pupils have enjoyed sporting success, taken part in creative activities and visits, including to the Wales Millennium Centre to see a performance of Puccini’s opera, Madame Butterfly. Also, on Thursday 31st March, pupils visited a Healthy Living Fair at school, finding out about how to keep healthy and safe.

The Fitzalan school community is committed to inclusion and, as a school, we are working towards School of Sanctuary accreditation (https://schools.cityofsanctuary.org).  The pupil-led charity committee has arranged several fundraising events in support of humanitarian relief in Ukraine and Yemen.

To ensure that children and young people are supported to have positive online experiences, the Welsh Government has launched a new ‘Online issues and worries area on Hwb. This area includes information and advice on 10 different online safety topics, including online bullying, sharing nudes and online gaming. The advice pages offer children and young people important information and guidance on what to do and where to turn for help if they are worried about something online.

It is hard to miss the progress being made on the new school building.  For a more detailed update, click here : Easter Update.  Pupils and staff have been involved in choosing internal colours and designing the school gates.

As part of our preparations for the move to the new school, our school uniform is having an update. This followed a period of consultation.  The new uniform will apply for pupils joining Year 7, Year 10 and Year 12 in September 2022.  Pupils in Year 8, Year 9 and Year 11 may choose to wear the new uniform, if they wish. After the Easter holidays, samples will be available in school and photographs will be shared with parents.

Easter Holiday Revision

There is a comprehensive programme of revision for pupils in Years 10-13 during the school holidays.  Please go to the school website to see the full revision timetable. Click here: Easter Revision Programme

Good luck to all pupils sitting external examinations this summer.

Return to School

The new term begins on Monday 25th April.  Please support us in maintaining high standards at school by ensuring your child/ren are properly equipped for school, including a school bag and full uniform.  Pupils must not wear hoodies or non-uniform items of clothing.  Please ensure that your child/ren only wear school PE kit on days when they have PE.

School Uniform Store

We have a supply of pre-loved uniform in school.  If your child/ren would benefit from this, please contact :  Mrs S Jones – SJO@fitzalan.cardiff.sch.uk. If you have any uniform that your child/ren have grown out of, we welcome donations to the store.

Thank you for your continued support.
