Information for Parents around School Reopening
Dear Parents and Guardians
As you are aware, Fitzalan will be open for pupils from 29th June until 27th July. We want to do everything we can to make Fitzalan safe and secure for all members of the Fitzalan community. Thank-you to all parents who responded to our parent questionnaire: your feedback shows your concern for the safety of your children and we want to make sure we protect your children while they are in school.
Cleaning and Hygiene. In addition to supplies provided by the LA to all schools in Cardiff, we have ordered additional handwashing stations for Fitzalan and our cleaning team will be on site throughout the day to keep the school clean and safe. Hand sanitiser will be readily available and we will ensure that everyone follows a good hand hygiene routine.
School site. The site has been deep cleaned, and will be set up for effective social distancing. Desks in classrooms and halls will be at least 2 metres apart and there will be one way systems so that movement of pupils around the school is safe and well-managed.
Timetable and Curriculum. Each year group (7, 8, 9 & 10) will be able to be in school for approximately one day a week. Year 12 will come in on different days for their options. Some pupils with additional learning needs may be in school more often. This will keep the total number of pupils on site at any one time safely below the limits set out by Welsh Government and will make it easier to prevent transmission. When pupils are in school, the focus will be ‘Check in, Catch up, and Prepare’. They will have wellbeing sessions, structured subject lessons and targeted support to help them with their remote learning. Timetables will be sent to your child’s school email address, which will tell them the time that they need to arrive in school and their lessons for the day. Timetables will also be on the SIMS parent and pupil apps. Different groups of children will arrive at school, leave school and have their break at different times. This will reduce the number of people that any pupil comes into contact with and will allow them to social distance.
Remote learning. It is important that pupils still do their remote learning work on the days that they are not in school.
Uniform. Please ensure your child wears their school uniform to school, and then changes into home clothes as soon as they arrive home so that their uniform can be washed. We have spare, clean uniform items available at school for anyone who needs them.

Transport: The safest way to travel to school is to walk or cycle. However, school buses will also operate.
Catering: To reduce the risk of transmission, there will be no food provided in school this term. All free school meal children will continue to receive a direct payment to use to buy food. Please provide a packed lunch for your child.
Contact Details. If you have received this email in the post, it means that we do not have a working email address for you. Please set up an email account and let your child’s Head of Year know your email address.
I will send out more detail and updates in the coming weeks, please be reassured that we are doing everything we can to make Fitzalan as safe and as welcoming as possible. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact either myself, or your child’s Head of Year. This letter is also available on the Covid-19 page of the school website where it can be translated into other languages by pressing the globe on the menu bar.
