Techniquest 2019

Today students across Year 9 took part in a workshop with visitors from Techniquest, Cardiff’s main Science Museum, based in Cardiff Bay. The aim of the workshop was to enthuse students in their science studies, as well as increase awareness of where science careers can take you. The workshop, ‘Lights, Camera, REaction,’ focused on different effects used in tv and film and the chemistry involved in creating these effects. Students had a go at making realistic alien saliva using acids and bases, demonstrated how secret messages can be read and finally used their chemistry skills to create alien slime.

‘I loved the experiments and practicality of the workshop. It was cool that we used acids and universal indicators to create different colourful effects. I wish the workshop was for longer!’ – Year 9 student.

‘It was a unique way of using chemistry. I liked the way we studied science through the workshop’ – Year 9 student
