Peace Day 2018: Building Peace one day at a time

 

The 21^st September marked Peace Day which this year celebrated 70 years of the declaration of Human rights: a right to Peace. Founded by Jeremy Gilley (an actor and filmmaker) in 1999, the aim was to institutionalise 21^st September Peace day as a day of global unity and intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known.

Here at Fitzalan, pupils were set the task of writing a pledge towards Peace by thinking about, and then implementing, one thing that they would do to bring peace to their lives and others. Over 400 pupils from across the year groups participated in the Peace pledge and their pledges were then used to create a Peace tree as a reminder to pupils of their pledges throughout the year.
