Eco-Club 'Plastic Free School' trip to the Senedd, Cardiff Bay

On Tuesday 7th December 2021 Mrs. A. Cheesman (Year 10 Pupil Achievement Leader, PAL) took a group of eco-club pupils in Years 8, 9, 10 and 11 to the Senedd in Cardiff bay to attend a ‘Plastic Free Schools’ event.

The eco-club have recently purchased external bins to collect and recycle plastic bottles.  However, the pupils are keen to reduce plastic consumption across the school.  Fitzalan staff were recently issued with a hydro flask, which can be refilled.  This strategy will reduce the amount of disposable plastic bottles purchased by staff.

During the visit the pupils displayed placards and artwork to raise awareness of the need to reduce plastic consumption.  The pupils then questioned Members of the Senedd (MS) to include Julie James MS (Minister for Climate Change) about government strategies that have been / will be implemented to reducing plastic consumption.

The pupils ended the trip with a visit to the Siambr (debating chamber) where they watched a live debate featuring Mark Drakeford (First Minister of Wales) and other ministers.
