Year 11 GCSE Geography Microclimate investigation

The Year 11 GCSE Geographers carried out a microclimate investigation around the school premises on Friday 4th October 2019.  The pupils have been studying Core Theme 5: Weather, Climate and Ecosystems in their Geography lessons and had the opportunity to develop and apply their knowledge and understanding of microclimates by collecting data around the school.  The pupils worked well in groups and began by selecting a range of appropriate sites on the premises.  Mini digital anemometers were used to record wind speed and temperature.  A stop watch was also used, which allowed the pupils to obtain the highest wind speed and temperature in one minute.  The data recorded clearly showed that temperature, wind speed and precipitation varied across the sites.  The pupils will now display their data in graph format to show their findings.
