Leckwith Fieldwork Data Collection Exercise, Year 7 Geography

In the week commencing Monday 4th March 2019 the geography department took all of year 7 for a walk around the Leckwith area of Cardiff for their first KS3 data collection exercise.  Year 7 pupils have been studying ‘The town and countryside’ in their geography lessons throughout the spring term, with an emphasis on urban and rural environments.  The learners recorded different house types, including detached, semi-detached, terraced, bungalows, flats/apartments and commercial premises.  The pupils used this data to create a tally chart and discrete bar graph to display their findings.  The learners then had to decide which zone of the Burgess Land Use Model was most suited to Leckwith.  Many pupils enjoyed learning outside of the classroom, despite some classes having to collect data in the rain.
