Year 12 visit The National Assembly for Wales

On Wednesday 13th February 2019, the Year 12 AS government and politics group visited the National Assembly for Wales. Pupils were able to receive a guided tour around the Senedd, learning about the history of devolution in Wales that created the National Assembly for Wales, the relative powers and role of the National Assembly and Welsh Government, before taking their place in the public gallery to observe the Plenary session debating the Brexit implications for Wales.

Year 12 pupil Zach Davies commented: 'I thought the Senedd trip was thoroughly enjoyable. I learned a lot more about the inner workings of the Welsh Assembly and how it not only links to the Welsh Government, but also its links to the UK Parliament. The tour was educational and shared the rich history of the Welsh Assembly and the building it is housed in.'

Ansa Memon thought the trip 'was entirely fascinating. The making of the Senedd, what the Welsh Government is in charge of and the separation of powers after devolution, were a few of the things that we had learnt during our time with our brilliant guide. I personally believe that the highlights of the trip were listening to the AMs in the Siambr and leaving our mark by signing the guestbook. Overall, it was definitely a special and memorable trip for all of us.
