GCSE Geography - Fieldwork Enquiry

On Thursday 8th July 2021 the Year 10 GCSE geographers completed their fieldwork enquiry within a physical environment along the River Ilston, located on the Gower peninsula in Swansea.

The pupils collected relevant data from three different sites to include Ilston, Parkmill and Pennard Pill.  A range of fieldwork equipment such as measuring tapes, metre rulers, flowmeters, stop watches, callipers, ranging poles and clinometers were used to measure and record channel width, depth, velocity, size of material, angularity of the slip-off slopes and the height of river cliffs.

The pupils will now compare this data with secondary data following the same enquiry that was carried out by the Year 10 GCSE geographers in 2015 to investigate change over time.

The fieldwork enquiry (unit 3) is worth 20% of the final GCSE geography qualification.
