Remembrance 2021

Remembrance time is an important part of the school year at Fitzalan.  On Monday 8th November we held a whole school assembly delivered by Teams when we thought about why and how we remember.  We also found out about the Battle of Britain as an example of just one to the conflicts that saw men and women sacrificing their lives for our freedom.

Throughout the week, the Charity Committee sold poppies and other merchandise to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and we also had generous online donations.

On Thursday 11th November, we held a remembrance event that was once again streamed through Teams so that the whole school could be involved.  At the front of school, members of the Charity Committee, senior students, a small number of classes and our cadets gathered at the front of school.  There were readings and a poppy wreath was placed under our remembrance tree.  At 11am, the eleventh hour of the 11th day of the eleventh month, the bell was rung and the entire school fell silent for two minutes.  Our time of remembrance concluded with the famous words:

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them."

Thank you everyone, staff and pupils for your donations to the Poppy Appeal and for joining with us as a community to remember those who sacrificed so much.
