America Ski Trip 2020

During the February half term break the PE department took 24 excited pupils on a trip of a lifetime where they got to ski in Boston, America and then they travelled onto New York to see the amazing sights and sounds of the Big Apple. The trip consisted of skiing 2 days at the Loon Mountain Resort which is where our ski-in, ski-out hotel was situated, right at the bottom of the slopes, which was perfect when the pupils had finished their days’ skiing.

The pupils also got to ski 3 days at another resort called Cannon, which was only a 10-minute bus journey away. Both ski resorts provided the pupils with the most stunning picturesque environment possible, with numerous ski runs available to suit all learners, from novice to expert. The 24 pupils were split into 4 groups, with each group receiving expert tuition from their own vastly experienced, friendly and approachable instructor. This perfectly tailored environment ensured all our pupils made excellent progress throughout the week and all thoroughly enjoyed the skiing aspect of the trip.

In the evening the PE staff arranged activities such as snow tubing, swimming, basketball and a quiz night which meant the pupils were always busy and had a constant source of entertainment.

The second part of the trip involved traveling to New York by coach. En route we arranged a shopping trip at one of the famous American shopping outlets, where the pupils got the opportunity to complete some tax-free shopping and get themselves some bargains. From there it was onto New York and dinner at the Hard Rock Café. Whilst in New York the pupils also had the opportunity to see some of the astonishing sights, including a river line cruise where they got to see the Statue of Liberty close up. From there it was onto the Empire State Building, where the pupils were able to take in the breath-taking New York skyline from the open-air platform at the top of the building.

This adventure really was a trip of a lifetime for all staff and pupils who attended. Throughout every aspect of the trip the pupils’ conduct was extremely respectful and supportive towards one another and staff; they were a real credit to themselves, their families and their local communities.

The PE department are aiming to run another America Ski trip in February 2022 and we will be advertising this in assemblies soon!
